The Balaton Region

Balaton and its surroundings is one of Hungary’s most beautiful natural treasure and after Budapest it is the most popular destination for swimming and relaxation. Although in the 1980’s and 1990’s the quality of services declined as a result of mass tourism as well as a diminishing of the water quaility , the 21st century has brought a significant improvement and development in the area.

Balatonalmádi – although in terms of development and tourist sites is behind the county seat of Veszprém, 14km away, or Balatonfüred which is 20 km’s away – is one of the most beautifully situated towns on the Balaton. The hills and forests surrounding Almádi form beautiful countryside, ideal not only for bicycle tours, but for picnicing too.

You can easily reach the town by train from Budapest, though we cannot guarantee that you’ll have a quick travel, because both the renovation of the track and the carriages is still a future project, but the fast train will get you there in 90 minutes.

A few hundred meters from Villa Nautica, there is a bicycle route that encircles the whole of the Balaton, but you can easily join the additional bicycle route to Veszprém.

Balatonfüred is clearly lake Balaton’s fastest developing town, where even in winter, life does not go cold. You can take walks on nature trails, wander around the atmospheric early XIX. century quarter, experience wonderful promenades, taste excellent wines, visit good restaurants or fantastic confectionaries, and if you want nice beaches, you can definitely find the best ones here.

In 2014 Tihany won the European village renewal award: and no doubt the Apátság area, the village centre, the neighbourhood of the Inner-lake the lavenderfields are all worth a visit.

If you fancy taking a trip or having a more wonderful experience, do not settle for just this: although they are a bit further, yet they are not to be missed,: Badacsony and its surroundings, as well as the Balaton-Uplands including the Káli-basin.
